Dearest Friends, Craftsman Zhao Li Ping and Craftsman Fu Xian Qing are a pair of highly skilled ZiSha Craftsmen whose works punch above their weight. We at the Cao Family have talked to them, and have convinced them to join us in July 2024! And we will be curating together onwards, with each of them crafting a very special pot for you friends every three weeks as their special works come through! Every three weeks, we are thankful for your understanding and patience of these special works as they come through. Craftsman Fu Xian Qiang kicked off the series in July with the amazing Yuan Gan Fang 圆敢方古 version of the Ping Gai Shi Piao 平盖石瓢, swiftly procured by our Scandinavian Tea Master。 Craftsman Zhao Li Ping impressed with her Fu Hu in August, which was snapped up within three hours of its launch as it headed to the tea table of a special VIP in Europe.
In our local YiXing fraternity, Ground Zero, there are many of us in the true proper circle (sorry to write it this way) who value, grade and judge the skill and craftsmanship and Art of ZiSha Works, regardless of the rank of the Artist/Craftsman. Yes, the rank of the Artist/Craftsman almost, do not matter any more. We value the work before us, according to its inherent skill involved and the Artistic flair and aesthetics it embodies and presents to us. This is the Shi Yuan Hu 柿圆壶, a largish ,stately and difficult pot to craft to maintain its extremely organic svelte silhouette coupled with Craftsman Zhao coaxing VERY diligently the midline shoulder kink that continues carefully perfectly horizontally throughout its circumference.
The other factor that counted against its success, and its preciousness, being its largish size! Craftsman Zhao courageously and decisively crafted it to be largish, and the heavily risking the top half of the pot (with its substantial weight topped off with the lid) collapsing and sinking downwards.
The half-way acute angle kink shoulder line counted to the top half sinking down.
Any slight deformity during firing will be easily evident. Craftsman Zhao is very happy that her Shi Yuan's equatorial line maintained its perfect latitude, stable and straight, surviving the firing! A pot that could come to fruition after two weeks of efforts.
We salute Craftsman Zhao for her zest in the challenge to create this one single largish, very special Shi Yuan Hu, for you friends.
